Affirmations: What are they & What are the Benefits?

With last month’s Self Love Project, I implemented daily affirmations into my life. As cheesy as it sounds I believe that affirmations are a key piece to the puzzle in my healing journey.

Heal the mind and the body should align is basically my approach. If you’re new to affirmations you may not know how they can potentially help you.

So let’s dive into it.

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive things you say or think to yourself. That’s it. Super simple right? The key here is that they are positive things.

When you affirm something you are speaking to your subconscious and we all know that the mind is a powerful tool.

Essentially, you are training (or re-training in a lot of our cases) your brain to have a more positive and favorable outlook about yourself and your situations.

Benefits of Affirmations

There are many benefits to using affirmations. Need a confidence boost? Do some affirmations. Want to cancel out negativity? Do some affirmations. Self-esteem need a lift? Affirmations.

Seriously, affirmations are lit.  Over time they will reduce your aptitude to negativity. Some people don’t even realize how negative and toxic their thoughts are.

Affirmations help you bring more awareness to your daily thoughts and words. Once you start paying attention to your thoughts, you’ll make an effort to allow less negativity to seep in.

They also help with perspective and gratitude. Little things will not set you off as much because daily practice helps keeps small things in perspective. With you focusing on the positive aspects of situations you’ll find more things to be grateful for.

Another side effect to affirmations is motivation. Who can/should be a bigger cheerleader for you than you?

A lot of people laughed at Dj Khalid when he was on Snapchat giving himself daily pep talks. He was planting the seeds.

Now look at his glow up over the past couple years. You can also catch his affirming over his son daily and instilling that positivity within him.

Why Do I Affirm?

I’ve known about affirmations for a while but when I tried it before it really didn’t stick. My failed attempt may have been because I didn’t know how to do them or didn’t feel comfortable.

I think it was because mentally I wasn’t open to believing what I was saying. You have to have just a seed of faith to allow that positivity to plant and bloom,

This time around with the Self Love Project I was more consistent and more open to affirmations. Since incorporating them into my daily regimen I’ve seen a lot of benefits.

Overall I feel like I’m less stressed out and more positive. Things have been moving in my favor and I honestly believe the shit is positivity has attracted more positive things and opportunities in my life. They may have always been there but I was mentally blocked by negativity.

So here’s to a year of positivity, energy and growth. My world is transforming and if you incorporate affirmations into your life, Id bet yours will too,
