Eating with a chronic illness is definitely an interesting topic. ⁣
⁣
I remember when I was diagnosed someone suggested going vegan or vegetarian. As if that would magically make everything better.⁣
⁣
I do value food as a tool not only to fuel my body but also to fuel my mental and emotional health.⁣
⁣

Prednisone is an go-to treatment for a multitude of things but those of us who are on it long term are way too familiar with some of the nasty side effects.⠀

The trauma of having a chronic illness without question impacts your relationship with yourself and changes how you think about yourself.⁣
⁣
Before diagnosis, I believed in my ability to make good decisions and felt autonomy in over my life.⁣
⁣
⁣
Chronic illness obliterated those beliefs.💥⁣
⁣
Ok maybe not obliterated but definitely challenged those beliefs. I 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 like I couldn’t rely on my judgement or decision making and that I had no control over anything because the illness was in control. ⁣
⁣

I have a love hate relationship with social media⠀
⠀
On one hand I love that I’m able to connect with people around in world. I’ve found the Spoonie community and an unlimited source of support and inspiration. The vibe is unmatched.⠀
⠀
On the other hand, it can be overwhelming. The pressure to post consistently, be creative, be aesthetically pleasing and keep up with the joneses. Y’all know what I’m talking about right?⠀
⠀
Scrolling the gram and seeing all the happy faces, people traveling, accomplishing things, freely moving their bodies can be triggering… especially when you’re in the middle of a flare or crisis.⠀
⠀
That’s why from I try to find balance between being active on social media and unplugging. Often times I take detoxes and step away from time to time.⠀
⠀
My mental health is a priority just as much as my physical health.. some days more important.⠀
⠀
Please remember to not compare your real life to what people are sharing on social media. Folks rarely post their dark moments and comparison is the thief of joy + gratitude ⠀
